Credit Bureau Statement of Privacy

Since we were founded, Credit Bureau has tried to help its customers retain their privacy while they take advantage of all the Internet has to offer. We are committed to protecting your privacy and developing technology that gives you the most powerful, safe, online experience that you can get anywhere. If you have questions about this, please write us at privacy@creditbureau.org.

The Credit Bureau Privacy Policy

Credit Bureau has adopted stringent privacy protocols to protect the confidentiality of personal credit information maintained in its database. All products and services are measured against these protocols. They are intended to enhance consumer trust and faith in the system. Credit Bureau and all of its associates take their responsibilities seriously. The company bases its policies and operations on the highest ethical standards so that it will not breach this trust.

Credit Bureau will:

Recognize and respect consumer privacy concerns and expectations.
Credit Bureau recognizes that as more personal data becomes available in the marketplace through consumer initiated transactions, consumers have a legitimate concern about how the information is used. We are mindful of and carefully consider the privacy concerns of consumers whenever information is requested by our customers.
Limit access to information in Credit Bureau's database to companies that have a legal permissible purpose to receive it.
Consumer reports are available only to customers who have a permissible purpose, as described in the Fair Credit Reporting Act. We are aware of consumer concerns about the nature and quantity of information that is disclosed. We vigorously verify how our customers use the information and require, to the limit of our ability, their compliance with the law.
Balance the amount of information customers receive with their need for the information and the consumer benefit.
We limit the type of information that we disclose to customers based on the balance between their needs, permissible purpose and the likely consumer benefit. Credit grantors making decisions about credit applications may receive a full credit report; customers who use the information for employment purposes receive a condensed report; and direct marketers receive no personal financial data.
Use the most effective security measures available to prevent unauthorized access to the database.
We have established passwords and codes; suppressed account numbers on reports; use private, dedicated phone lines for communications; and use other security measures to prevent unlawful intrusions into the database.

Browser Security

Applying for a credit card or ordering your credit report is not only fast, it's safe. We serve thousands of customers nationwide, every day.

Your online communication with us is made possible by your computer's web browser, which plays a critical role in the security of every transaction. Our security system meets the highest standards, supporting browsers that use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) 3.0 or higher for encryption. Encryption protects your private information so it can't be intercepted and read. When you go to a site that requires encryption, your browser will display a key or a lock. If you are not in a secured area, the key or lock will be broken.

Securing your personal information.

In order to offer you a credit card application online, we need some basic facts about you. Be assured that your personal information is used only to offer you the best credit card possible, and is not shared outside of the issuing bank (except as detailed in the Disclosures section of the credit card application). Information you provide via this website, including e-mail, is protected and will be kept strictly confidential.

Maintain opt-out procedures that allow consumers to be removed from Credit Bureau lists.
We believe consumers should have the right to make informed decisions about the use of their personal data, including the right to be removed from direct marketing lists. Consumers have the right to choose if they want the opportunity to shop at home, evaluate competing credit offers or receive other types of promotions in the mail. At every consumer contact, we will notify consumers of their right to opt-out. We encourage our customers to do the same. We provide an address and an 800-number that consumers can use to exercise this privilege.
Assure that information can only be used for legal and ethical purposes.
Credit Bureau has strict guidelines prohibiting the use of our data for making offers that are offensive, pornographic, or in bad taste.
Maintain constant vigilance to assure compliance with these principles, including internal compliance audits and regular reviews of customer access and security procedures.
Credit Bureau uses internal compliance audits, continually reviews procedures, and monitors its products and services to be responsive to consumer privacy issues. These are the principles and procedures observed by Credit Bureau to ensure the proper use of consumer credit information and to safeguard the privacy of every individual.
